What’s in my Makeup Bag?

Today I’ll be discussing about some of my favourite makeup items... as in the key products, also my favourite shades, brands, etc. I wont be able to cover everything in a single post so I’m gonna keep it short for today. Cutting through the chase, I’m not a lot into makeup mainly because I can’t afford it, also ‘cuz it’s bad for the skin. I have a very sensitive skin and believe it or not I haven’t used any makeup since 2016. But like every other girl, I believe makeup is an art & I always get attracted to beauty products... it’s worth enhancing your best features especially the eyes and lips, that is exactly where the focus should be.

I don’t use mascaras, highlighters (got a very bad reaction from Benefit’s pearlescent one) I don’t apply foundation nor concealers, oh hell no! They are a threat to my delicate luminous (touchwood/alhamdullilah) under eye area.

I use an 800/- INR (11$) cream as a refill in my Miniso pump bottle, the one with a nozzle... it’s my Holy Grail and I’m not revealing it! 🧿 I also use it on my “Native American” cheekbones to make them naturally plump for that “Botox” effect. I’m more into skincare actually, I’m obsessed with hyaluronic acid & a healthy, soft, plump skin. I can’t even think of making my face disproportionate with injectables and jaw liposuction. Like I said, I love having silky, thick, plump skin and I’ll hate to see a skeletal face... especially if it’s mine. I do have strong jaw game and that kind of a bone structure so it’s ideal for me to opt for a natural second skin! Lol

But the reason I’m drafting this is because I wanna share a few makeup products I’ve recently purchased. So I got 2 lip liners from Zara because they are really cheap and affordable and I didn’t have a Lip liner since ages... The only set of brushes I had was from Vega which I got when I was ahem... ahem 12! I bought it in advance because I was excited to use light makeup as a teenager, I used that Vega set for the next 10 years and after that it was indeed time to get a new one hahaha! I would keep them clean by the way... and I’d anyway use only the lip and eyeshadow brushes so no biggie. I didn’t use any makeup in the past 3 years so I obviously didn’t need brushes but then I got a few things this year and I got this set for 1000/- it comes with a pink leather case which can double up as a brush holder.

I received my first mini makeup kit as a gift when I was 6, it was sent across by my grandma’s friend... there was a small hot pink single handle purse, a rose pink cream blush and a clear lip balm encapsulated in a Barbie pink lipstick case, it was all from Oriflame. I was asked not to use the blush so I would never really open it... I’d adhere to all these things very sincerely. But I was on cloud 9 because of the lip balm/my very own first lipstick!! I was so excited, it was hard for me to get over it... I just felt very lucky you know. I would carry that mini purse everywhere and then take out my lipstick to look as sassy as possible!

Coming back to recent times...

Like every other girl I’ve always wanted to vlog my skincare & makeup routine but I don’t have enough confidence to face the camera or even take selfies, I haven’t done that since 2017 *sighs* I thought why not spill a few secrets on this blog... so here’s a lil’ sneak peak of my Makeup Drawer:

I have a set of 5 brushes... (990/-) they came in a pink leather case which can be used as a brush stand, then I have a Nude Concealer Brush (250/- or 3$) which I got for my air light foundation... (shh can’t reveal the brand, it’s a secret) I’m planning to use it only on special occasions, I’ve also got a Crystal Blush Brush (250/-), a flat foundation brush, a mini eyebrow brush, small round short trimmed kabuki blush brush and a retractable kabuki brush from Chanel

I’ve got this set which includes 1 x Pouch, Powder, Blush & Lip Brushes & an Eyelash Curler... Look how pretty the bristles are, I just don’t feel like using them for my dirty work! I found it for 699/- or 9$

I’ve stored all of them in the above Newspaper Print Vinyl pouch which is my absolute favourite, it looks prettier in really life (My phone’s Camera is not able to capture the actual colour) I had also featured it in one of my collages... it’s also super affordable, I had to spend barely 245/- (3$)

Next, I have around 4 lipsticks including the quintessential velvety & powdery mattes and 2 lip liners, I’m yet to buy a blush and some eyeliner (liquid as well as pencil)

I do have an eyebrow pencil which I feel is like an essential product ‘cuz I love arched eyebrows... honestly I also think overly tweezed 90’s brows are still the best, they can give you that ‘oomph factor’ in an instant! They also accentuate your cheekbones and jaws like nothing else. I have one which matches the shade of my brows perfectly, it has an angled slant tip for added precision and a gel on the other end to set your brows.

I love collecting these ultra soft, plush Pink Dior leather pouches! They are simply the best!! It’s like a perfect lil’ gift for aesthetes...

I also have an Iridescent pouch and a Brocade Jacquard one in Jaipur Pink.

I’m not gonna lie, I recently splurged on some makeup palettes... I wanted one for my Birthday but the brand was not available in India back then, I was glad when they finally launched it here...

I didn‘t like the eyeshadow palette I’d selected earlier for the colours were kinda tacky and the tin packaging didn’t look like it was worth 4500/-

Those shades are more for apt for night outs and I’m more into sophisticated neutrals... like mauves & pink nudes.

I found a palette which has some really nice vintage shades, it’s got an early 90’s vibe and it reminds me of my Boudoir Moodboards I also received a complimentary wine coloured leather pouch along with that which has a nice shiny heart pendant zip! So chic!!

It’s priced at 3500/-

I‘ve got a Chanel Les Beiges Eye Palette which is going to expire soon... Dec, 2020!

I recently got myself an illuminating powder as I’m not into highlighters, I prefer a more dewy look over something metallic so I usually apply loads of moisturisers to impart that irresistible glow for a porcelain sheer complexion. Also like I said, the glitter particles in my previous one were giving me rashes... I had purchased it for my 21st Birthday from Sephora. It was a liquid highlighter and they usually penetrate into your skin so I thought I’ll avoid those for now, even M.A.C. strobe cream is like a big no no for someone with a sensitive skin like mine which can easily become dull & react as glitter is always toxic and it’s going to look metallic too. Be it that or the classic Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, no matter how popular they are, I just don’t think they are suitable for everyone.

I wanted something more subtle and different... something that would blend easily into my skin and match all the other makeup palettes and shades that I have, so I opted for this Luminous Beige Brick. It can easily illuminate the skin without looking garish, metallic or silverish. I wasn’t looking for a bronzer so I skipped the other colours and Nude was like a chrome-ish yellow to be honest so I figured it was either Porcelain or Bare. Now it says you gotta pick one according to your complexion but what I’ve concluded is that it entirely depends on your purpose... if you are looking for a highlighter or illuminator then you can choose out of the first 3 shades ie: Porcelain, Bare & Nude and the rest 3 are Bronzers.

Bronzers can surely give you more dimension & depth or that “glamorous Hollywood appeal”... but they don’t suit everyone and they can make your face look “common.” Applying that can instantly strip off your individuality... Now the Porcelain shade in this range is indeed very beautiful but it’s - Silver and it has a lilac silvery shade right in the centre so avoiding it is almost impossible if you are using a bigger brush; that colour overpowers all the other shades in the palette. Albeit, it is perfect for highlighting but I wanted an illuminator, not a highlighter... Nude was very chrome and it was again looking like a Bronzer, also when you’ll mix all the colours the final build up can lead to a darker shade so I picked Bare which I think stands for “Barely there” it’s a beautiful beige illuminator and it also has some lovely shades of Pink Nudes which can look very pretty. They are not that visible in the pics here.. I was afraid the Porcelain palette would look too chalky so I thought this would be the best especially when it’s a blind buy and you want to play it safe.

Dark Angel - Elysian - Foil Gold Halo

paired with an Egyptian smokey wing & kohl eyes (well I’d like to called it a Cleopatra style Egyptian wing) Highlighter + Waxy Matte final finish + pale nude lipstick to exhibit a porcelain lifeless statuesque look.

It’s super inspiring & easy to create!

So that’s my pick. It has crystallised glitter particles which add more luminosity when reflected in light.

That’s all for now!

Xoxo
