I am discussing about different Mattresses in this article…
P.S. I haven’t received any incentives or freebies for sharing this post. All the products mentioned here are purchased by me.
I was initially compromising on Sleepwell’s Cocoon mattress due to lack of choice and constant pressure at home for a “traditional household name/brand” Anyway, it was already expensive and it’s not even like my bed was of “King Size”, it was coming under a Queen Size category but the price WITH DISCOUNT was 18500/- and to everyone’s shock including the dealer who said, “This is the cheapest mattress you’ll find in Sleepwell, the quality is also meh…” they I N C R E A S E D the price to 39000/- & it was coming to 35k after discount. The rims and piping of that mattress is massively big and uncomfortable, you can’t even stuff it inside a bedsheet, the overall look of the mattress is also quite unappealing, I saw a YouTube video of a lady who had ordered it and her brand new “Cocoon” didn’t seem to be in a new condition at all, they had to turn the top layer of the memory foam upside down because it was already too “mushy” & soft, you are supposed to do that after long term use to increase its life. Whatever, I decided to quit that pretentious brand once and for all…
Kurl on is no less, their mattresses are also like Sleepwell, they are highly uncomfortable & hard, I don’t know what they stuff inside and if it’s literally coir… they have ZERO to no transparency when it comes to the composition, the prices too are crazy and the mattresses are downright unappealing, tacky and uncomfortable!
We have many new brands who’ve taken memory foam to a completely different level with their engaging, interactive websites, competitive pricing and creative subscription mails. You get three different types of mattresses:
Memory Foam with HR - High Resilient Foam at the base & thermoadapt memory foam as the top most layer, the latter so far is only available in a select few brands, most like Sleepwell have PU or polyurethane foam which is entirely synthetic and it heats up a lot.
A healthier alternative to Memory Foam: Latex - It’s bouncy and soft but a little bit on the firmer side if compared to memory foam, most brands are using 100% natural latex which is sourced from Rubber Tree extract. It doesn’t heat up & it is also hypoallergenic, personally I find it more comfortable & softer than memory foam, it doesn’t have that “quicksand” sinkage feeling & it is relatively a bit better for the spine.
Spring or Pocket Spring Mattresses - The top layer is made either out of memory foam or latex and the mattresses have coir or pocket spring below. It is more suitable for those who are overweight and one of it’s major cons include high motion transfer + noise which means any movement on one side of the bed will have it’s impact on the other side, also when the mattresses wear out all the springs can poke from here and there.
Keeping it short, I feel Memory foam mattresses are more apt for kids, teens and adults who don’t have any physical condition like Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, spondylitis, etc. because there isn’t much back support, although it relieves joint pain & it is good for your pressure points and blood circulation (which is a common complain in Fibromyalgia) but they are meant to take the shape of your body so anyone who requires more sturdiness has to opt for other options.
There are many brands like Sleepycat, Morning Owl, Sleepyhead, Sunday Rest, Flo, Wakefit, Emma, etc. who are making Memory Foam mattresses on a small scale level and delivering them in quick, bed in a box kinda Vacuum Packs, it has become as easy as ordering fast food… I personally liked Flo because their name and the waves on their mattresses reminds me of water beds, not that they are wobbly like them but their tagline is also inspired by that, it says “Go with the flow”, it is also suggestive of the fact that Memory Foam mattresses can take the shape of your body and they give you a floating feel. The theme and branding is great and they are the only ones who are not using cotton or synthetic, nylon top covers (not talking about mattresses protectors) their mattresses are made with a plush Cashmere covering which I’m sure you know is my favourite, I have another blog and website which is known as Cashmerecult.com The mattress is neither too mushy like Emma’s nor too firm like Sunday… they also offer great discounts and give complimentary eye masks. Coming to the feedback, I don’t go on reviews if they have less technicality or more subjectivity, also maximum people who were giving those exaggerated reviews are not even able to even in speak proper English, I’m not saying their opinions are to be disregarded but they lack credibility BECAUSE I feel they were paid, they were probably paid to remove flaws and tarnish that brand’s image, one of the reviews of their Parent Brand was extremely misleading and it made me very skeptical and pessimistic but I soon realised that it was bogus - A girl was complaining about their Customer Service but when we contacted them, the service was really great, they call you back if they are busy, they even communicate on whatsapp, they’ve not hired cheap labor like most other places, the customer care reps sound intelligent and smart, they communicate eloquently even via emails, we also visited their store in Andheri East and the response was really good. It all seems to be on an international level as you don’t find so much diligence & proper communication in India.
Coincidentally when I landed on Hush’s Page (their parent brand) I realised that they supply mattresses to Hotels like Marriott, ITC, Hyatt, etc. and my Room’s Theme is also Hotel inspired, someone said they are wrongly advertising Taj as they’ve stopped taking from Hush, well I had already told my mother that I don’t think they are supplying to Taj anymore cuz their beds have become very uncomfortable and my brother had the same opinion, in fact I’d not even read what that guy had written about “wrong advertising” when I told her this. The reason why I’m supporting ‘em is because if I would’ve started a brand of my own, I too would’ve used a similar concept and made such gorgeous European inspired mattresses! I remember visiting their Lower Parel store, the one which was situated above Oma, as a Teenager, I was attracted to the cute Lilac window up there and I wanted to check it out, I was probably 16… when I went there I fell in love with the pillows and cushions and I was constantly wishing if we could switch from Kurl on! They specialise in memory foam mattresses and pillows, it has always been their forte.
I got a Flo mattress at Amazon’s Lightning Deal for a day bed at ₹ 6000/- (I actually needed it ASAP cuz my room’s under renovation & I had no proper place to sleep) and I bought their waterproof terry protector for my main mattress which I purchased from Hush because like I said Memory Foam is more indulgent and for anyone with muscle or bone issues, a sturdier mattress is highly recommended. Luckily I got to see Flo’s Ergo at the Andheri East store because someone had returned the 100 day trial version, it had lost its shape but the staff told us that it’s normal for that to happen in 1 out of every 100 mattresses and I’d agree because when I was going through their reviews I only saw one which was looking like that out of the many pics that they’d shared. It also depends on your bed frame because memory foam is always on the softer side, it’s like clay it can take whatever shape you exert on it, so if your bed frame has proper edges (like mine) I also have a slab/front panel, then it will support the mattress well and it will retain its shape. I liked the fact that it wasn’t squishy or mushy even after 100 days of use, it had not become too soft and had retained its medium level firmness, it was not at all wobbly and that is very important for durability as well as sturdiness/support when you are buying a foam mattress otherwise it can give you back pains.
I bought this Aloe Vera Terry Mattress Protector from Flo for my Hush Mattress because I wanted it in beige. I got a nice eye mask with my Flo mattress (the one I ordered for my Day-Bed) it has velvet lining on the inside.
I got a Latex Ortho Mattress but it’s not hard like the other orthopaedic ones that you normally get! It’s quite soft and the cover is made out of a nice quilted plush Soft Knit fabric and it has beautiful motifs on top, the sides are a little different in this digital image, they’ve given it intricately woven matching golden sides which look really pretty. I have already taken a mattress pad which again has a soft memory foam filling and I would be using it on this mattress. Price on Request
Approx. 16700/- with Festive Offer for my Queen Sized Bed 78 x 63 x 6 inches
Custom Size took hardly 3 days to get manufactured & it was delivered to me by noon. The mattress is very soft and luxurious!
I didn’t visit the store, one of my family members went there and they were being assisted by their salesperson who helped me with a few videos because I wanted to see how the feel was and I realised it was soft and nice without having that sinkage feeling which is more apt for me to retain my posture and I needed something like that for my spine.
Xoxo
until next time…
Love, Zara
