I had called someone for home visit from JCB for my haircut, I mustered up some courage, washed my hair - btw don’t buy the Kohler Rainduet Handshower, the pressure is very low… I want to colour my hair as well but for that I’ll have to go to the salon cuz I can’t spoil my white bathtub with colour, when I’ll get better I’ll go there, I have decided which shade and all, it’s reflective and it gives you those natural matte gold highlights like the 90s, I want that “doll” look so I have chosen whatever shade I want. I just want to take care of my hair, make them thicker so that I’ll be able to colour ‘em and I had not cut my hair since 2019 because of BDD and low confidence + that also led to agoraphobia… my hair had grown so long, they were coming below my waist & that can easily weigh your hair down, it can also lead to split ends, hair breakage & weakened roots, I’ll have to fix them now… I even got wet and dry dandruff 😫 I had another nightmare and I woke up with a bad migraine & fever again, migraine makes your eyes more blurry and head showers are a big no-no in migraine but I took it anyway, the stylist (Aamir) was luckily very gentle and soft spoken, he was not rough like most of them and I showed him a few references and I’ve cut almost 6 inches from down, not less than that… (damaged hair) so now my hair are very short and that is exactly what I wanted, he didn’t give an exact U shake cuz it takes longer to grow and I’ve already added layers in the front (after long) it’s almost the classic 90s feather cut, the ref images had few soft layers in the front but they were feathery, I remember when I was 7 or so I wanted to get a feather cut like one of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s clippings which were there in the parlour (remember those “beauty parlours”… I just love such cute vintage places but we don’t have them anymore, they would have all these mags & clipping everywhere) I wanted that feather cut but the hair stylish told me I was too young and I won’t be able to fit those strands in plaits (for school) so I can do it when I grow up… I finally had the chance to get it done this time, previously I’d opted for a blunt cut in 2018 without much layers and I realised my hair were still on the longer side…
Fringe/Bangs take the longest to grow, around a year… then comes the V cut which can take 7-9 months, then the proper U which might take a lil’ longer than usual as in approx. 6 months (I’ve had that experience before) & the semi U which I’ve done now might take 3 months, straight cut hardly takes a month to grow back… it’s the fastest. I have kept long layers framing my face in the front, longer ones can elongate your face and I love long faces, I don’t have any layers on the sides or the back. I am not used to shorter hair but length is the same as any fresh haircut, it’s similar to Mia Thermopolis from the Princess Diaries
My transformation was literally epic like her’s, from Jhadiyaan (Brittle, Rough, Damaged bushes) to this… ✨
References: The last one with Karen Mulder (on the runway) has a gorgeous feather cut but you need extremely thick hair to get that movement, pic no. 6 has a cute Summery hairstyle, its a casual shoulder length haircut with flipped ends, it’s best suited for teenagers with a small pout and delicate features, once your face has developed that proper bone structure, this hairstyle would be too “small” to frame your face, Denise Richards has layers on the front as well as on the side, I had tried this same style with long hair and I ended up regretting it… I was given a fringe and beautiful layers like this to frame my heart/diamond shaped face but it was giving me a very generic look, the fringe added a dimension - it was able to accentuate my high cheek bones & jawline but I lost a lot of hair in that process and when the blow dry wore off, I ended up hating the scanty layers which were tapering down from my chin, I felt like cutting that whole part, luckily this time all the layers had grown out and I could easily get rid of them along with the damaged split ends/latter half of my hair. Angelina Jolie’s haircut is similar to mine… the image from Clueless again has a semi U, I wanted the length to touch my empire waist like the 7th pic but it again looks pretty long & flat, my stylist forgot that reference because he was busy detangling my long hair, they would get knots every two minutes… they were THAT long and I have a “fine” texture, he showed me how much he’ll be chopping off and although I didn’t have enough guts to go this short I just picked what I wanted and the best reference would be the 2nd, 3rd & Angie’s pic…
At the end of the day if you are confused between long & short hair then to sum it up, if you want that Gorgeous Goddess kinda look then you can opt for long tresses, it’s more empowering & it gives you that “character” by boosting your confidence level more effortlessly.
And if you can’t manage long hair or you want to focus on building the density and volume or if you want something to suit a much more Morden lifestyle you can go in for coiffed urban looks which are shorter, nowadays we don’t have enough time to groom long hair, this might sound rude but we also end up having bloated faces due to excess sugar and salt which has become a primary part of our diet and shorter looks can give your face that natural lift, they can also easily accentuate your features and high points, so if you prefer something more Chic then you can go in for shorter hair styles. I’ve always been into the latter but I was misguided, I was told fine hair look really scanty when they are short (it’s actually the other way around) I was never happy with my long boring flat hair I finally went ahead and had my first short haircut in 2018 and I realised they were still flat and long, so did my brother… he also felt that they weren’t exactly what I wanted so this time, I went shorter.
