I’m not a failure, even if things didn’t go as planned… I had to work with limited options ‘cuz like I said in India it’s as if they deliberately keep all kinds of bleak, boring stuff everywhere (on every platform) ie. during Eid. I’m afraid of receiving more parcels, don’t want to be disappointed again, people are already leaving bad reviews for other Gharara sets, what I’ve chosen looks good better than the ones they’ve picked but that brand has also mentioned on their own website that they procure these things from “somewhere”and it takes around two weeks to get it delivered, this reminded me of NS & Inish because they also do that, they procure the same stuff and then sell it under different names… I have already come up with a few more options as an alternative it was very difficult though because it’s not easy to get a small size, maximum of them are downright Large and in India things are only easy for those who are rich, you’ll get boring everyday casual sets between 10-20k, anything which looks even like “tad bit better” starts from 45k. They do have a lower range at Aza, Ogaan etc. but those clothes are nothing festive & on SS again, everything is boring and casual, the problem is, for some reason all these brands believe we’ll only buy “clothes”… because they expect us to easily spend 45-90k on their outfits for dinner parties & smaller festive occasions, they completely forget that we have a huge shopping list at hand, we need jhuttis, batua, additional layers like fancier drapes & odhnis (I love them) jewellery etc. sometimes even makeup. I wanted a bigger Chanderi odhni along with a matching dupatta to layer whatever I’d picked and some fledging niche brand had really good options in Chanderi but it was a bit expensive and I wasn’t sure of their “size chart” (after spending so much I don’t want to waste more money) they look too huge, in India, as opposed to the west, you won’t get sizes between 0-2 or even 4, they start from double & triple and they literally have XXL/XXXL in ready stock :/ nothing’s changed, I luckily got my size in the Sabyasachi Patiala when I was 19… back then they were not that expensive (it was from Aza the colour was sold out at his own Boutique in Fort) nowadays they are only stocking up all these large huge unwearable sizes, I’m so done… nothing’s readily available and even if they have smaller sizes for preorder, their size chart differs a lot from the designer’s original sizing which means they might be surreptitiously altering it, well they can at least clearly mention that on their website or they must be directly cancelling the orders. I wanted something I could be certain of, something rich and sophisticated and at the same time also very pretty, something which would justify the price tag… I came up with these two looks - in trendier colours, I had to buy everything separately, so I’ve named both of them to remember which piece or order belongs where - Mojito Green & Rosé Brut Mojito Set:
This outfit costed me 3400/- with the Extra Dupatta which I got from some other store & I’ve matched it with that choker and my Pink Ghungroo Jhuttis
It’s a Light Lime/Mogra or Jasmine Green colour (as in White with Pale Green) the Kurti is in Georgette and the Sharara Skirt is in Viscose Silk, I have added an additional Organza Odhni in a beautiful Celery Green colour - to give it that Heritage appeal.
Rosé Brut
This one’s more expensive… but within 10k approx 9500/- (without the choker) it has a pure Silk Kurti with Pathan style sleeves, wish it had those collars too, it’s got small sequins and a little bit of lace on one side, it’s very simple but it looks good, people have taken the other Kurti from the same range, it’s all sold out and there was only one left in stock in this particular style (that too luckily in my size) I have teamed it up with this Salwar, the palazzos are again sold out and I love the shade of what I’ve chosen more than the baby pink palazzos, I have added one Faux Chanderi Oadhni (at least it has real organza, at all other places they cheat you when they say it’s Organza, the dupatta is probably not made out of real silk Organza but it’s flouncier than the ones which you normally get) I also got another Organza dupatta in a deeper shade to break the monotony and make it more interesting, so that it looks somewhat “designer”.
I can team it up with these Garnet earrings or my choker (you can see it in part 1)
Love,
Zara Sauleh
